Description of operation of Jumbo Supermarkets dehumidifier

The DCs of Jumbo Supermarkets work day and night to keep all stores stocked. In the national freezer DC of Jumbo Supermarkets in the Netherlands (location: Raalte), the intensity of transport is so high that it is practically impossible to keep the doors closed. The result of this is that moisture enters, via the adjacent dock shelters, in the vulnerable freezing climate of -21ºC. This moisture immediately forms snow when it comes into contact with cold surfaces such as walls and ceilings. Over time, the snow drifts towards the floor, resulting in a microscopically thin (and often invisible) smooth layer of snow on the floor.

To solve these moisture problems, Jumbo Supermarkets, in collaboration with P.C.T. Koudetechniek (part of Unica) and Air In Motion developed a plan that reduces the moisture load towards the freezer room at -21ºC by more than 90%.

Advantages of AFIM Dry for Jumbo Supermarkets

By reducing the moisture load by more than 90%, Jumbo Supermarkets creates a workable climate without slippery floors. Both safety and internal logistics benefit from this on a daily basis. Because the evaporators no longer freeze, the temperatures in the freezer room are maintained and significant energy savings are achieved. In addition, manually removing accumulated ice from the evaporators is a thing of the past.

But this was not all. Empty (moistured) trolleys are stored adjacent to the freezing climate. To remove moisture, cooling was previously done to approximately +5ºC. By implementing Air In Motion's solution, the temperature of the adjacent climate has been increased from +5ºC to +10ºC. This results in a second energetic gain.
